Why this might happen
- Camera privacy shutter or hotkey is enabled, blocking the lens.
- Camera disabled in Windows settings or by privacy permissions.
- Outdated/corrupted drivers for the integrated camera.
- Antivirus or security software blocking camera access.
- Recent Windows updates causing driver or permission conflicts.
- Camera hardware fault — loose cable, defective module, or physical damage.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Basic checks
- Verify the camera shutter switch (if present) is open.
- Try pressing the camera hotkey (often Fn + a key with a camera icon) to toggle it on.
- Ensure the room has adequate lighting when testing.
2. Windows camera permissions
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Ensure Camera access and Let apps access your camera are both On.
- Check specific apps (e.g., Zoom, Teams) are allowed to use the camera.
3. Test in Camera app
- Open the built-in Camera app (type Camera in Start menu).
- If the app shows error 0xA00F4244 or “No camera found,” continue below.
4. Device Manager check
- Press Win+X > Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging devices.
- If the camera is listed: right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.
- If missing select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
5. Reinstall driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the camera → Uninstall device.
- Check Delete the driver software for this device (if shown).
- Reboot — Windows should reinstall automatically.
- Alternatively, run VAIO Update for the latest camera drivers.
6. Check antivirus/security settings
- Some antivirus programs block webcam access by default.
- Open antivirus settings → ensure Camera/Webcam Protection is disabled temporarily for testing.
7. Windows Update & VAIO Update
- Run Windows Update to ensure all system patches are applied.
- Run VAIO Update for BIOS, chipset, and camera-specific driver updates.
8. BIOS/UEFI check
- Restart → press F2 to enter BIOS.
- Confirm the Camera/Integrated Webcam option is Enabled.
- Save & exit.
9. Hardware inspection
- If camera remains undetected in both Windows and BIOS, it may be a loose cable or defective hardware.
10. Safety check
- If the camera is physically cracked or lens cover is jammed, avoid forcing it open — service may be required.
Still not fixed.
