Reason for the Cause
Common reasons Bluetooth may not work, won’t pair, or keeps disconnecting:
- Bluetooth is off or blocked
Airplane Mode is enabled, the BT toggle is Off, or the radio is disabled in BIOS/UEFI. - Device is paired elsewhere / not in pairing mode
Headphones/speakers remember old phones and auto‑connect to them, preventing pairing with the VAIO. - Outdated or corrupted drivers
Windows/driver updates failed, or the Intel/Realtek Bluetooth stack is corrupted. - Power‑saving or USB/bus issues
Windows turns off the BT adapter to save power; some USB dongles or internal radios power down under heavy battery saving. - Windows services not running
The Bluetooth Support Service is stopped or set to Manual. - Hardware fault
Internal BT/Wi‑Fi card, antenna cables, or the accessory itself is defective.
Troubleshooting – Step by Step
Work through these in order. After each step, try pairing/using Bluetooth again.
A. Quick checks
- Toggle Bluetooth & Airplane Mode
Settings > Bluetooth & devices → turn Bluetooth Off, wait 5 sec, turn On.
Settings > Network & Internet → ensure Airplane mode is Off. - Reboot the VAIO and the accessory.
Fully power off the accessory; for speakers/headphones, hold the Power button until they shut down. - Move closer & reduce interference
Keep within 1–2 m (3–6 ft). If possible, connect your Wi‑Fi to a 5 GHz network (temporarily) while testing.
B. Clean re‑pair (forget + pairing mode)
- Remove old entries in Windows
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices → locate the device → … > Remove device. Factory‑reset the accessory
Put it into pairing mode (or reset) per the manufacturer manual (often holding Power or a dedicated BT button for ~5–10 sec until an LED blinks).Tip: If the accessory can pair with multiple devices, temporarily disable BT on your phone so it doesn’t “steal” the connection.
- Pair fresh
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth → select your accessory when it appears → Pair.
C. Windows troubleshooters and services
- Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters → Bluetooth > Run. - Restart BT services
Press Win+R, typeservices.msc, press Enter → find Bluetooth Support Service → Right‑click > Restart.
Double‑click it → set Startup type: Automatic → OK.
D. Drivers & Windows Update
- Run VAIO Update
Open VAIO Update (or download from VAIO Support) → install all Bluetooth/Intel Wireless/Chipset and BIOS updates available. - Update/repair the driver in Device Manager
Win+X > Device Manager → expand Bluetooth → right‑click the main adapter (e.g., Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)) → Update driver → Search automatically.
If issues persist: Uninstall device → check Delete the driver software for this device (if shown) → Uninstall → Restart. Windows will reinstall a clean driver.
E. Power & performance settings
- Prevent power saving from turning off BT
Device Manager > Bluetooth > (each Bluetooth Radio/Adapter) → Properties > Power Management → Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power → OK.
In Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode, choose Balanced or Best performance while testing.
F. If the BT toggle is missing or grayed out
Verify the adapter is detected
In Device Manager, if no Bluetooth category exists, select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
Expand Network adapters for entries like Intel Wireless Bluetooth. If still missing, proceed to step 10.G. Accessory‑specific issues (audio, mouse, etc.)
- Select the correct output/input (for headsets)
Right‑click the speaker icon → Sound settings → choose the Bluetooth device for Output (and Input if it has a mic).
For A2DP/HFP headsets, choose the Stereo profile for high‑quality music; the Hands‑Free profile lowers quality but enables mic. - Remove hidden/duplicate drivers
In Device Manager, View > Show hidden devices → under Bluetooth and Sound, video and game controllers, right‑click any grayed‑out entries for the accessory → Uninstall device (do not delete main BT adapter). Re‑pair.
H. Advanced isolation
- Clean boot to rule out conflicts
Press Win+R, typemsconfig→ Services tab → check Hide all Microsoft services → Disable all → OK → restart and test.
If BT works now, re‑enable services/apps in groups to find the culprit. - Test with another BT device
Try pairing a different accessory (e.g., BT mouse). If that works, the original accessory is likely at fault.
Still not fixed.
