Why this might happen
-
Num Lock / Function Lock toggled, wrong keyboard layout/language, or accessibility features (Filter/Sticky Keys) altering input.
-
Temporary driver/firmware glitch; VAIO hotkey service not running.
-
Debris/spill causing stuck keys, or wear on the key matrix.
-
Loose keyboard ribbon cable after a bump/repair; top-case hardware fault.
-
USB devices/docks or external keyboards conflicting with input.
Troubleshooting steps
-
Quick toggles & basics
-
Press Num Lock (for number-pad behavior) and test again.
-
Toggle the Fn/Function Lock (often Fn + Esc on many laptops).
-
Try Win + Space to switch keyboard language/layout back to your primary language.
-
-
Accessibility settings
-
Windows Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard: turn off Filter Keys, Sticky Keys, and Toggle Keys.
-
-
External keyboard test
-
Plug in a USB keyboard.
-
If external works but built-in still fails, it points to internal keyboard hardware/cable.
-
-
Clean & inspect
-
Power off. Gently blow compressed air across the keys.
-
Check for stuck keys/debris; lightly tap around the affected area.
-
-
EC (embedded controller) reset
-
Shut down → unplug AC and peripherals.
-
If your model has a pin-reset hole on the bottom, press it with a paperclip for 5–10 seconds.
-
Reconnect AC and test.
-
-
Driver refresh
-
Device Manager → Keyboards: right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard (and any VAIO keyboard entries) → Uninstall device.
-
From the menu choose Scan for hardware changes (or reboot) to reinstall drivers.
-
-
Update VAIO utilities & firmware
-
Use VAIO Update/My VAIO to install the latest hotkey/keyboard utility, chipset, and BIOS/EC updates. Reboot and test.
-
-
Isolation checks
-
Try Safe Mode (Windows Recovery → Startup Settings → Safe Mode).
-
Try entering BIOS (F2) at boot.
-
If keys don’t work in BIOS (and external keyboard does), it’s likely hardware.
-
Note: If your issue is the touchpad/trackpad (pointer not moving, clicks fail). Please refer following link -
