Why this might happen
- Touchscreen disabled in Windows settings or Device Manager.
- Outdated or corrupted drivers for the HID-compliant touchscreen.
- Windows updates or firmware conflicts affecting digitizer functionality.
- Touch service stopped — Human Interface Device service not running.
- Screen damage or dirt — cracked glass, liquid residue, or heavy smudges interfering with touch input.
- Hardware fault — digitizer cable loose or touchscreen panel defective.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Basic checks
- Clean the screen gently with a microfiber cloth.
- Ensure no protective cover or thick screen protector is interfering.
- Restart the laptop to refresh services.
2. Windows settings
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touch.
- If there’s a toggle for Touchscreen, ensure its enabled.
- Test in multiple apps (e.g., Edge, Camera) to confirm its system-wide.
3. Device Manager check
- Press Win+X > Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices (HID).
- Locate HID-compliant touchscreen.
- If present: right-click → Enable device (if disabled).
- If missing select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
4. Update/reinstall drivers
- In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touchscreen → Update driver → Search automatically.
- If issues persist: right-click → Uninstall device (check Delete the driver software if shown).
- Reboot — Windows should reinstall it.
- Alternatively, run VAIO Update for official drivers.
5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter
- Open Windows Terminal (Admin) → type:
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic - Follow the wizard to auto-detect hardware problems.
6. Calibrate touchscreen
- In Windows search, type Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input.
- Choose Setup and follow on-screen prompts.
- Select Calibrate if touches don’t align properly.
7. Windows & firmware updates
- Run Windows Update and VAIO Update.
- Install all pending system, firmware, and chipset updates.
- Restart and test again.
8. BIOS/UEFI check
- Restart → press F2 to enter BIOS.
- If available, ensure Touchscreen/Touch panel is enabled.
- Save & Exit.
9. Hardware inspection
- If the touchscreen remains undetected, the digitizer cable may be loose or the panel itself defective.
10. Safety check
- If there is visible cracking, swelling, or liquid damage around the screen, stop using the device until inspected by service.
