Why this might happen
- AC adapter failure — damaged brick, frayed cable, or faulty charging tip.
- Wall outlet issue — outlet has no power or unstable current.
- Loose or damaged DC/USB-C jack on the laptop, preventing proper contact.
- Underpowered adapter — using a lower-wattage charger or non-VAIO compatible adapter.
- USB-C Power Delivery mismatch — charger or cable does not support the required wattage (e.g., <65W).
- Overheating — adapter overheats and shuts down temporarily.
- Firmware/BIOS glitch — power controller not recognizing the adapter.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Wall outlet & LED check
- Plug the adapter directly into a different wall outlet (avoid surge protectors/extension cords).
- Check if the adapter LED (if present) lights up.
2. Inspect cables & brick
- Examine the entire adapter cable for cuts, frays, or bent tips.
- Wiggle the connector gently at the laptop side — if charging cuts in/out, the jack or connector may be faulty.
- Feel the adapter brick — if it’s excessively hot or has burn marks, stop using immediately.
3. Test with another adapter (if available)
- Use a genuine VAIO adapter of the same model/spec.
- If the alternate adapter works, the original is defective.
4. USB-C models only
- Ensure you’re using the correct USB-C port — some VAIO models only charge from one side.
- Charge directly — avoid docks/hubs.
- Swap to another high-wattage cable.
5. Power reset (EC reset)
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the adapter and all peripherals.
- Hold Power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect only the adapter and check if the charging LED turns on.
6. Updates
- Run VAIO Update → install the latest BIOS, chipset, and power management updates.
- Reboot and recheck adapter recognition.
7. Battery/charging LED patterns
- Observe the charging LED — if it blinks in a repeating pattern, note it.
- Patterns often correspond to error codes (useful for service).
8. Safety check
- If you detect burning smell, swelling, or sparking, stop using the adapter immediately.
- Do not attempt to repair the adapter yourself.
Still not fixed.
